Care that follows your cycle
In Chinese medicine, the menstrual cycle is one of the clearest windows into overall health. Cramps, clots, a short or long cycle, headaches before your period or night sweats in menopause each point to a particular pattern — of Qi, Blood, warmth or hormones — that can be gently corrected.
The World Health Organization includes menstrual irregularities, premenstrual syndrome and menopausal symptoms among the gynecological conditions for which acupuncture and TCM may be used. In our practice, women's health often overlaps with our fertility, migraine and sleep and mood care.
Through every stage of life
Painful periods
Cramping, heavy bleeding and clotting, often helped by acupuncture, herbs and warming moxibustion.
Irregular or absent periods
Regulating the cycle, including amenorrhea. One patient's period returned after regular treatment.
PMS & menstrual migraine
Mood swings, bloating, breast tenderness and headaches linked to the cycle.
PCOS & ovarian cysts
Supporting ovulation and hormonal balance; several patients reported cysts resolving on follow-up ultrasound.
Menopause
Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, anxiety and joint aches.
Pregnancy support
First-trimester nausea, sinus and allergy flares, back pain and stress during pregnancy.
One pattern, many symptoms
Hormonal symptoms rarely come alone. Mandi H., 29, of Madison first came for migraines that followed the menstrual cycle. Within the first months, Mandi's periods became regular almost immediately, the pain from a 3 cm ovarian cyst resolved, frequent night-time urination eased and energy returned. Treating the underlying pattern addressed all of it together.
Abigail C., 30, also of Madison, wrote to tell us that after treatment for an ovarian cyst, the next ultrasound showed the cyst was completely gone.
Please continue regular care with your gynecologist. Any new, severe or unusual pelvic pain or bleeding should be evaluated by a physician first.

Women's health questions
Can acupuncture help with menopause symptoms?
Menopausal symptoms are on the World Health Organization's list of conditions for which acupuncture and TCM may be used. We commonly treat hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems and mood changes with acupuncture and herbal formulas.
Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?
Yes, when performed by a licensed acupuncturist who avoids points and herbs that are not appropriate in pregnancy. Tell us as soon as you know you are pregnant.
When in my cycle should I come for treatment?
It depends on your goal. For painful periods we often treat in the week before your period; for irregular cycles and fertility, treatment continues across the cycle. We will plan the timing with you.
